Terms of Service — Ask Safely Assistant

Agreement to Terms
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of the Ask Safely product (“the Service”): the web app at app.asksafely.ai, the iOS app, and the Android app, operated by SafeLife Inc. (“SafeLife,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), a Delaware C-Corp based in Minneapolis, MN.
By accessing or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

Eligibility
You must be at least 17 years of age to use the Service. By using Ask Safely, you represent that you are at least 17 years old. If we learn that someone under 17 is using the Service, we will terminate their account and delete their data.
The Service
Ask Safely is an AI assistant powered by Anthropic’s Claude models via AWS Bedrock. It provides conversational AI, web search, specialized AI experts, and additional capabilities depending on your subscription tier.
What Ask Safely Is
Ask Safely is a general-purpose AI assistant designed for research, writing, learning, and everyday tasks. It generates responses using AI models and web search results. Paid tiers include access to specialized AI experts for tasks like research, writing, and troubleshooting.
What Ask Safely Is Not
Ask Safely is not a licensed professional. AI responses are informational and should not be treated as professional medical, legal, financial, or therapeutic advice. For decisions that could affect your health, legal rights, finances, or safety, consult a qualified professional. We are not responsible for actions you take based on AI-generated content.
Subscription Tiers
Ask Safely offers the following tiers:

Promotional pricing is available for a limited time. We expect promotional pricing to end and list pricing ($20/month or $200/year) to apply to new subscriptions on or around October 2026. If you subscribe at a promotional price, that price applies to your subscription until we change it, and any increase is subject to the notice requirements in the Price Changes section below. Founding Membership pricing is permanently locked and unaffected by promotional pricing or its expiration.
The specific AI experts, models, and features included in each tier may change as the product evolves. If a change materially reduces the features available to paid subscribers, we will provide at least 30 days' notice.
Free Trial
New subscribers may be offered a 30-day free trial of the Expert tier.
- A payment method is required to start the trial. Your payment method is collected and stored by Apple, Google, or Stripe — never by SafeLife.
- You will not be charged during the trial. The trial gives you full Expert access for 30 days at no cost.
- The trial converts to a paid subscription automatically. Unless you cancel before the trial ends, your payment method will be charged the price shown when you started the trial (currently the promotional $12/month or $120/year, at your selection) and your paid subscription begins. We will state the conversion price and date clearly when you start the trial, and your payment provider (Apple, Google, or Stripe) will also disclose them at checkout.
- You can cancel at any time during the trial and pay nothing. Cancel through your device’s app store subscription settings (iOS/Android) or your account settings (web) at any point before the trial ends. If you cancel during the trial, you keep Expert access through the end of the 30 days, then your account reverts to the Essential (free) tier. You will not be charged.
- Trial reminders. For trials started on the web, we will send you a reminder email before your trial converts to a paid subscription. For trials started through the Apple App Store or Google Play, reminders are governed by Apple’s and Google’s own notification practices.
- One trial per person. Free trials are limited to one per person and are available only to users who have not previously held a paid Expert subscription or free trial. We may modify or withdraw trial offers at any time; changes will not affect a trial already in progress.
Founding Membership
The Founding Membership is a limited-edition subscription tier for Ask Safely’s earliest supporters.
What You Get
- Full Expert access — all current and future Expert-tier features, as they become available.
- A numbered seat — one of 100 total Founding Membership seats. Your seat number is assigned at the time of purchase.
- Price locked at $100/year forever. Your annual subscription price will never increase, for as long as you maintain an active Founding Membership. This price lock has no exceptions and no expiration.
- Early access to new features — Founding Members receive access to new features (including About you memory, Knowledgebooks, AI experts, and future capabilities) before they are available to standard Expert subscribers.
- Collaboration channel — access to a private Slack channel where Founding Members can communicate directly with the Ask Safely team, provide feedback, and help shape the product roadmap.
Founding Membership Terms
- Non-transferable. Your Founding Membership is tied to your Ask Safely account and cannot be transferred, gifted, sold, or assigned to any other person or account.
- Annual billing. Founding Memberships are billed annually at $100/year. There is no monthly Founding Membership option and no free trial for Founding Membership.
- Cancellation. You may cancel your Founding Membership at any time. If you cancel, your Expert access continues through the end of your current billing period. Once canceled, your numbered seat is released and cannot be reclaimed — re-subscribing later will be at the then-current Expert pricing.
- Limited to 100 seats. Once all 100 Founding Membership seats are filled, no additional Founding Memberships will be sold.
Payments and Billing
Payment Processing
Subscriptions and free trials may be started through:
- Apple App Store (iOS in-app purchase)
- Google Play Store (Android in-app purchase)
- Stripe (web-based payment, managed via RevenueCat)
All payment processing is handled entirely by these third parties. SafeLife never receives, processes, or stores your credit card number, bank account details, or other financial information. We receive only your subscription or trial status and plan information.
Billing Cycle
Monthly subscriptions are billed every 30 days from the date of purchase (or, for trial users, from the date your trial converts). Annual subscriptions (including Founding Membership) are billed every 12 months from the date of purchase or trial conversion. Your subscription automatically renews at the end of each billing period unless you cancel before the renewal date.
Refund Policy
All subscription payments are non-refundable. Once a payment has been charged, we do not offer refunds, partial refunds, or credits for unused time. This applies to all paid tiers, including Expert Monthly, Expert Annual, and Founding Membership.
To avoid being charged at the end of a free trial, cancel before the trial ends — see the Free Trial section above. Canceling during the trial means you pay nothing.
For subscriptions purchased through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, their respective refund policies may apply. Any refund requests for app-store purchases should be directed to Apple or Google.
Cancellation
You may cancel your trial or subscription at any time. Upon cancellation, your paid-tier access continues through the end of your current trial or billing period. After that, your account reverts to the Essential (free) tier. Your chat history, account data, and any saved preferences are retained (subject to your auto-delete timer) unless you also delete your account.
To cancel, use your device’s app store subscription management (iOS/Android) or your account settings (web).
Price Changes
We may change subscription prices for Expert Monthly and Expert Annual at any time, including by ending promotional pricing. Price changes will not affect your current billing period — they take effect at your next renewal. We will provide at least 30 days' notice of any price increase to your subscription, including an increase from a promotional price to list price. Founding Membership pricing is permanently locked at $100/year and is exempt from all price changes.
Your Content and Data
Ownership
You retain ownership of the content you submit to Ask Safely, including your chat messages, uploaded documents, and voice recordings. We do not claim any ownership rights over your content.
License to Operate
By using the Service, you grant SafeLife a limited, non-exclusive license to process your content solely for the purpose of providing the Service to you — specifically, to send your messages to AI models for response generation, to perform web searches on your behalf, and to store your content temporarily as described in our Privacy Policy. This license terminates when your content is deleted.
Auto-Deletion
Your chats are automatically deleted on your auto-delete timer: 8 hours by default, or 7 days or 30 days if you choose a longer window when you set up your account. You may extend an individual chat, in which case it is deleted at the end of your preset’s keep window: 14 days on the 8-hour preset, 30 days on the 7-day preset, or 90 days on the 30-day preset. Guest chats are deleted after 8 hours.
You acknowledge that auto-deletion is a core feature of the Service, that deleted content is removed from our production systems as described in the Privacy Policy, and that we cannot restore deleted content for you. SafeLife is not responsible for content you lose due to auto-deletion. If you need to retain content, save it outside of Ask Safely before the deletion timer expires.
Shared Chats
When you share a chat via a sharing link, you acknowledge that anyone with the link can view the conversation. Shared chats are deleted when the original chat is deleted. You are responsible for not sharing conversations that contain sensitive personal information you do not intend to make publicly accessible.
Acceptable Use
You agree not to use Ask Safely to:
- Violate any applicable law or regulation
- Generate content that promotes violence, hatred, discrimination, or harm against any person or group
- Generate child sexual abuse material or any content that exploits or endangers minors
- Harass, threaten, impersonate, or intimidate others
- Create malware, phishing content, spam, or other malicious tools
- Attempt to circumvent the AI’s safety filters or content policies
- Use automated systems (bots, scrapers, or scripts) to access the Service without our written permission
- Resell, sublicense, or commercially redistribute access to the Service
- Interfere with or disrupt the Service’s infrastructure or other users' access
- Upload files containing malware, viruses, or other harmful code
- Use the Service to generate content intended to deceive others into believing it was written by a human, where such deception could cause harm
- Abuse free trial offers, including by creating multiple accounts to obtain additional trials
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account if we reasonably determine that you have violated these terms. For serious violations, termination may be immediate and without notice.
AI-Generated Content
Ask Safely uses AI models that generate responses based on patterns in their training data and information retrieved from web searches. This applies equally to responses from the general assistant and from specialized AI experts. You acknowledge that:
- AI can make mistakes. Responses may contain inaccuracies, outdated information, or errors. Always verify important information independently.
- AI does not replace professional advice. For medical, legal, financial, or safety-critical decisions, consult a qualified professional. This applies to AI experts as well: an expert’s name (such as Researcher or Troubleshooter) describes what it is designed to help with, not a professional qualification.
- You are responsible for how you use AI output. SafeLife is not liable for decisions you make or actions you take based on AI-generated content.
- Web search results may change. Information retrieved from web searches reflects what was available at the time of the search and may not be current when you reference it later.
Intellectual Property
The Ask Safely product — including its design, branding, logos, interface, and underlying technology — is the property of SafeLife Inc. and is protected by applicable intellectual property laws. These Terms do not grant you any rights to our trademarks, trade names, or other intellectual property except the limited right to use the Service as described here.
The AI models powering Ask Safely are developed by Anthropic and accessed via AWS Bedrock. Anthropic’s intellectual property rights in their models are not affected by these Terms.
Account Termination
By You
You may delete your account at any time. Account deletion permanently removes your account data and content from our production databases, as described in the Privacy Policy — including how limited transaction records and encrypted backups are handled. This action is irreversible. If you have an active paid subscription, deleting your account does not automatically generate a refund for the remaining billing period.
By Us
We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms, if required by law, or if your account has been inactive for an extended period (12 months or more). Before terminating an account for inactivity, we will send a notice to your registered email address at least 30 days in advance. We will not terminate active paid subscriptions for inactivity during a paid billing period.
Disclaimers
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available.” SafeLife makes no warranties, express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement.
We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free from harmful components. We do not warrant the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of any AI-generated content or web search results.
Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, SafeLife Inc., its officers, directors, employees, and agents shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, data, use, or goodwill, arising out of or related to your use of or inability to use the Service, regardless of the theory of liability.
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, SafeLife’s total cumulative liability to you for all claims arising out of or related to these Terms or the Service shall not exceed the amount you paid to SafeLife in the twelve (12) months immediately preceding the event giving rise to the claim, or one hundred dollars ($100), whichever is greater.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages. In such jurisdictions, our liability is limited to the greatest extent permitted by law.
Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless SafeLife Inc., its officers, directors, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorney’s fees) arising out of or related to your use of the Service, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any third party’s rights.
Dispute Resolution
We prefer to resolve disputes informally. If you have a concern, please contact us at mike@asksafely.ai first. We’ll work with you in good faith to resolve the issue.
If we cannot resolve a dispute informally within 30 days, either party may pursue formal resolution. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service shall be governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, without regard to its conflict of laws provisions. You agree to submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in Delaware.
Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we’ll change the “Last Updated” date at the top. For material changes, we’ll notify you via email (for registered users) or in-app notice at least 30 days before the changes take effect.
July 18, 2026 update. This version reflects the introduction of user-selectable auto-delete timers (8 hours, 7 days, or 30 days, with matching keep windows for extended chats), the 30-day free trial of the Expert tier, promotional Expert pricing, and the AI expert roster. These changes are effective immediately upon publication because they expand the options and features available to you; they do not reduce any existing subscriber’s features or increase any existing subscriber’s price.
Your continued use of the Service after updated Terms take effect constitutes acceptance of those changes. If you do not agree to updated Terms, you should stop using the Service and cancel any active subscription or trial.
Miscellaneous
- Entire Agreement. These Terms, together with the Ask Safely Assistant Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and SafeLife regarding the Service.
- Severability. If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full effect.
- No Waiver. Our failure to enforce any provision of these Terms does not waive our right to enforce it in the future.
- Assignment. You may not assign or transfer your rights under these Terms. We may assign our rights to a successor entity in the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, provided the successor assumes our obligations under these Terms.
